It has been a joy starting this publication, The Sportsman's Magazine has been on the stands since March of 2002, and during this time we have gone from a 46 page publication to a 72 page publication. The growth can be attributed to the success of the advertisers; the response they are getting from their ads has been tremendous. Our goal is not just putting ads in but placing them in strategic locations throughout the publication to ensure the best results on placing an ad with us. One way we do this is by keeping the content and advertising rate equal, less ads on a page results in the advertiser having a better chance of being seen. Of course we could make more money by cramming alot of ads into a smaller amount of space but in the long run everyone benefits from keeping the ad/content rate equal.
Our content is supplied by top field editors, giving the reader what they want to find in the publication. Having something for everyone, whether they saltwater fish, freshwater fish, fly fish, waterfowl hunting or seasonal deer and turkey hunting articles is a major priority of the publication. The feedback we have gotten from readers on being able to pick up a regional publication that has everything has been great. We get guys and gals that do not normally saltwater fish giving it a try for the first time, same thing with the freshwater fishing and hunting. In polls of people that do one thing but not the other we have found the main reason being, they feel they are not educated enough to give the other a try, by exposing them to the sport with how to articles and reports they find out valuable information about it and are more apt to give it a try.
Children and the outdoors has become a large focus for us. In polls taken of youngsters today only about %4 are enjoying outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing. Most are into video games and television. Having three children of my own I see it in my own household. This is something we want to make a difference in. We are now offering the children's prizes in tournaments in hopes that the interest we generate with last a life time.
I sincerely hope you enjoy reading your copy every month, send us your photos of your outdoor adventures.
